Membership Types & Annual Dues:
Active ($500): The status of Active membership shall be those individuals qualifying for admission under the SCOA bylaws. Active members shall pay annual dues and may vote and hold office.
Emeritus (Waived): An Active member who has retired from the active practice of orthopaedics shall automatically be transferred to the status of Emeritus member. Emeritus members will not pay membership dues, shall not vote and may not hold office.
Associate ($250): Licensed, non-operative physician (MD or DO) whose activities and contributions are related to orthopaedic surgery. Associate members shall pay dues, may not vote and may not hold office in the SCOA.
Allied Health Professional ($100): Licensed, non-physicians whose activities and contributions are related to orthopaedic surgery. Allied Health Professional members shall pay dues, may not vote and may not hold office in the SCOA.
Candidate (Waived): The status of Candidate members may be conferred upon a physician who has commenced the study of orthopaedics with the intention of ultimately applying for Active Fellowship in the SCOA. Candidate membership is limited in scope and time to those in an approved orthopaedic Residency Program or Fellowship. Candidate members must maintain a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States or Canada or give evidence of full-time medical services in the Federal Government, which does not require licensure. Conferral of Candidate membership status upon a physician does not imply that the recipient will be admitted as an Active Fellow of the SCOA. The status of Candidate members is automatically terminated upon election to Active Fellowship in the SCOA or completion of residency or fellowship training. Exception may be made by the membership upon request by the Candidate member for time spent in specialized training, research, military service, or other exigencies. Candidate membership will be terminated for failure to complete an orthopaedic residency program. Candidate members shall not pay dues, may not vote and may not hold office in the SCOA.
Note: SCOA membership is based on a calendar year and expires December 31st.
